FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How do you repair a faded or damaged photo?

A. First, a high resolution digital image of the photo is made using a flatbed scanner. The original photo remains unharmed because all the repair work is done on the digital image. The corrective steps can include: improving tone, contrast, exposure, and color; removing dust and mold; repairing tears, cracks and missing parts; and removing scribbles and unwanted subject matter, among others. Most photos are fairly easy to fix but some require more work if there is severe fading or damage. Do-It-Yourself instructions here.

Q. How do I get my photo to you?

1) Send them by U.S mail. Mail to: TOM LASKO, 7221 HOLT RUN DR., NASHVILLE TN 37211. PHONE 435-862-4240. Mail the original photo and not a copy. Use cardboard stiffeners that are larger than the photo. Print DO NOT BEND on both sides of the mailer. First class usually is safe enough, but you can ask for special handling and insurance if you wish. Be sure to include a note with your name, address, phone, email and any special instructions. We will immediately acknowledge receiving your photo by phone or email.

2) Or you can scan the photo and email it to: tdlasko@infowest.com. Scan the photo at 600 ppi without enhancements, and save it as a tiff or jpeg file. If the file is extra large, emailing may not work. In that case, use the free transfer sevice at senduit.com or some simlilar online service. Set the expiration for 48 hours. You can also copy the scans to a disk and mail them to us. NOTE: If you don’t have a scanner, go to Kinko’s (FedEx Office) or some other scanning service and have them scan the photo as described above and copy it to a disk. Then mail the disk to us. If you have a problem with any of this, please call us and we will provide the necessary help.

3) Or drop it off at our address if you are in the Nashville area. Please call first--435-862-4240.

Q. What kinds of photos can be restored?

A. Historical or contemporary photos, including color or black and white prints, slides, filmstrips, and negatives. Most photos and snapshots can be repaired or enhanced to your specifications.

After any additional work, you can pick it up or we will mail you a high quaity print of the repaired image along with your original photo, plus any additional prints that you order. We will also put the restored image on a CD and send it to you at no extra charge if requested.
